Indonesia And the World Cups

Indonesia And the World Cups

As you might aware, Indonesia was the 1st Asian country to enter the World Cup stage which that time was held in France in 1938. Indonesia was still under Dutch colonization and named “Dutch-Indies”.

Since then, Indonesia has never again entered the elite countries to be in World cup events.

Actually, in this World Cup 2010 in South Africa, some Indonesian descents will be playing in final game under the Netherlands’ flag. They are:

Giovanni Van Bronckhorst

John Heitinga

Robin Van Persie

Demy De Zeeuw

Actually, there are many more players in Europe with Indonesian blood, like Radja Nainggolan who is in Belgian national team, and Sergio van Dijk which playing in Oz league. I am informed that they are interested in playing for Indonesian national team. Indonesian Football Association should do more to explore and exploite its young potentials, and to re-enter world cup stage in years to come. List to do is no short.

No…not these guys…, but van dijk who plays with Oz league..has ever said…interested to play for indonesia. But the problem is, indonesian regulation doesn’t allow the citizen carries 2 passports (dual nationalities).
Sergio van dijk wants to have dual nationalities…and plays for PSSI. Btw…his mom is Indonesian.

  7. gunawan says:

some of them are descendant of RMS (Republik Maluku Selatan) which is now still exist in Dutch for separated movement. I dont think they admit Indonesia as their homeland since their parents / ancestor were being sent to dutch because they choose not to become a part of Independently Indonesia at that time.
