hi, no offense, but Indonesia is not a Muslim country.
It is a country with the largest Muslim population in the world. The country itself is not called an Islamic Republic as opposed to Iran and Saudi Arabia. Our country is called the Republic of Indonesia, the country of democracy and pluralism.

Btw im an Indonesian Muslim too..

    @ hi & coolliioo:

You guys are correct, in the context that Indonesia is not an Islamic state, like Malaysia.

What the article’s saying is that Indonesia is a (predominantly) Muslim country. This fact is based on the population, not the official state arrangement. In English, many medias have said such term “most populous Muslim country”, for the population since Muslim refers to the people of Islam. Negara Islam would be referred to as “Islamic Country”.

    Hope this help.
    Thanks!

These wonderful facts (and the other articles here) should be compiled into a book and sent forth onto our Ministry of Tourism. That should give them a few ideas on how to shape our tourism campaign and ads :)

Definitely agree with Asti’s comment about using this artice to shape Indonesia’s tourism marketing.

You have so much to offer here, just nobody is offering it to the outside world. I have lived in Indonesia for three years, and I have been to many great places. Shame very few people in my native England even knows the name of your capital city :(
