Indonesian Sea Radar (ISRA), the first supervisory radar created by the researchers of the Lembaga Ilmu Pengetahuan Indonesia (LIPI) has been finally launched. The radar is used to help the sea and air transport regulation, weather observation, territory mapping, as well as navigation. “ISRA is a proof that the domestic expert could make equipment with high technology”, said head of LIPI Prof. Dr. Umar Anggara Jenie.
The radar’s dimension is 2 meter in length and 1 meter width, weighs around 200 kg, could reach a range of the detection up to 64 km this, and uses Frequency-Modulated Continuous (FM-CW) technology that consumes lower electricity power. For the selling price, it is estimated 50% cheaper compared to the competitor’s radar from Poland.
For military version, as missile guide and target lock, LIPI has been assigned by Research and Technology ministry to install the radar at Indonesian NAVY’s ships by 2010.
