It is always very refreshing for me to see an Indonesian getting an international award. I know that Indonesians are smart, because I’ve seen many of Indonesians getting gold medals in international olympics. But that’s not what I’m gonna talk about now. In this post I just wanna  let you all know about Professor Azyumardi Azra, who recently received one of the highest honors granted by the Queen of the United Kingdom.

Azyumardi Azra, an Indonesian professor of history at Islamic State University (or in bahasa: Universitas Islam Negeri) Hidayatullah Jakarta received an honorary Commander of the Order of British Empire for services to interfaith understanding. This honorary award was presented by British Ambassador to Indonesia, Martin Hatfull in Jakarta on Tuesday, September 28, 2010.

“Every year Her Majesty the Queen graciously grants honorary awards to people from all walks of life around the world who have made significant differences to their community,” Hatfull said. “Today I have had the honor of presenting Professor Azyumardi Azra with this award and I wish to pass on my sincerest congratulations to him.”

As one of Indonesia’s leading Islamic scholars, and a former co-chair of the United Kingdom-Indonesia Islamic Advisory Group, Azyumardi has demonstrated his dedication to promoting interfaith understanding over many years.

The British government recognizes that such work is essential to promoting stronger links between the major faiths of the world, he said.

See? It’s very amazing to see how our fellow Indonesian (who probably eat rice as much as we do ;p) receive an Honorary Award from The Queen of British Empire. If you want to know more about Professor Azyumardi Azra , please visit his official website: .

So, my smart Indonesian fellows, are you interested in following his path? :)
