Train Me, Train you

Sometimes in 2007, I went to 6 countries only in 1 month, and of course the transportation mode was by air. When it comes to traveling by air, and it gets too often, you can imagine the boredom you need to bear. My friend in Jakarta has to fly every 2 weeks to Hong Kong, and sometimes to Tokyo and Dubai, as part of her job. She once said to me, “I really need to move to other department, I am so exhausted”. She was so right. But hey, there’s hi-speed train connecting many countries from Armenia all the way to Indonesia. Is that possibl? Well, it is, and the negotiation, feasibility study, and budgeting is underway.

The project is Trans-Asian Railway, in which 19 countries will participate in the development of this Asian dream. Is Indonesia ready? Indonesia has long history in train business, and has at almost 7,000 km in total length of railway. The most modern train Indonesia has now is Argo Bromo Anggrek (pictured above), serving Surabaya-Jakarta-Surabaya daily. I really need to hop on this someday. And I really hope that when the Trans-Asian railways reach Indonesian territory, our capacity is already much more developed in managing train services.

Someone asked me whether there’s any room-cabin class in Indonesia, so that she can spend time privately in the room with her beloved one to do ‘any’ thing. Well, dear… you may try Kawis (Kereta Wisata/Tourism Train). Good luck searching :)
