Donna Karan: Very Much at Home in Bali at the Como Shambhala Estate

American fashion icon and the creator of Donna Karan New York and the DKNY label, Donna Karan, has officially declared the island of Bali her “favorite place in the world.”

The world-renowned fashion doyenne was quoted in an article in The Independent (U.K.) discussing her tastes in travel. Declaring her best holidays have been in Africa and Bali, Karan said, “Bali is where the mind, body and spirit truly connect.”

Discussing her most recent Bali sojourn, Karan revealed that she brought along her pal Calvin Klein. And when in Bali, she alwaysstays at the Como Shambhala Estate, a place she describes a “home away from home.”

Expanding on her love of for the exclusive Ubud hideaway, Karan said: “Bali is my favorite place in the world, as well as my spiritual refuge. Como Shambhala is owned by my dear friend Christina Ong, who also owns Parrot Cay in the Turks and Caicos, and I was in Bali with her when she was conceptualizing it all those years ago . . .Everything is perfection – the décor, the landscaping, the amazing treatments. When I go there, I am like a little child – all my senses are awakened.”

Karan went on to offer special praise for the food at the Shambhala, describing their unique “raw cuisine” selections as “divine.”
