JAKARTA, INDONESIA (BNO NEWS) — The government of Indonesia on Monday announced it will soon implement the United Nations (UN) Security Council resolution 1325 on women, peace, and security, the country’s Antara news agency reported.

The announcement was made through Indonesia’s ministry of women’s empowerment and child protection. Minister Linda Amalia Sari Gumelar said her office was drafting a national action plan on the implementation of the resolution, which would be completed during the year.

The plan, Sari explained, is a national action plan made up of integrating gender issues into policy, programs and activities, data collecting mechanism, and reporting system at each ministry and related institution. She added that the plan, which will operate on central and regional levels, would start from prevention to conflict termination phase, as well as recovery of social conflict.

The UN Security Council Resolution underlined the importance of four issues: the increased representation of women at all levels of decision-making and participation in peace development and conflict prevention; integration of a gender perspective in post conflict process and gender perspective improvement training; main concern for the special protection of women including action against sexual violence; and the integration of gender perspective in the program activity and UN peace operations report.
