While countries such as Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand have enjoyed tours by English Premier League clubs in recent years, Indonesia has had to content itself with visits from teams of former star players.

A team of AC Milan legends will visit Jakarta to play the Indonesia All-Star Legends at Gelora Bung Karno on September 4 as part of the “Asia Disaster Relief Tour 2011 by AC Milan Glorie.”

The Italian club will bring a number of former greats, including goalkeeper Nelson Dida, former Italy coach Franco Baresi, midfielder Serginho and forwards Christian Vieri and Daniele Massaro, tour promoter Asian Sport Development (ASD) announced on Wednesday.

The Indonesia All-Star Legends will be a mix of former national team players and current stars such as goalkeeper Ferry Rotinsulu, Cristian Gonzales and Boaz Solossa.

Baresi, who will lead AC Milan Glorie, said the club wanted to bring happiness to the region, which has been hit by massive disasters in recent years.

“AC Milan Glorie is very happy to come to Asia. It’s a beautiful place with beautiful people. We want to share some happiness with the fans and we hope they come to see the match,” he said on Wednesday.

The Asia Disaster Relief Tour 2011 will begin in Osaka, Japan, on Aug. 31, followed by the Jakarta match.

Though stars such as Cesc Fabregas, Cristiano Ronaldo and Rio Ferdinand have visited Indonesia recently, AC Milan Glorie will be the first top club to come to Jakarta since Bayern Munich visited in May 2008.

ASD chief executive Alan Solowiejczyk said he was trying to bring the AC Milan first tier team for an exhibition in Jakarta next year.

“This Glorie match will be the stepping stone for bigger matches,” he said.

Proceeds from the match will be donated to Indonesia’s biggest Muslim organization, Nahdlatul Ulama. The AC Milan Foundation will also donate another 50,000 euros ($71,000).

Tickets are available online at,, and, as well as Gelora Bung Karno. The cheapest ticket is Rp 50,000, while the most expensive will sell for Rp 1,250,000.
