I have mentioned last nite in my twitter, that I would write about this. A friend of mine, an economic analyst from Canada, said to me several months ago that Indonesia will soon put at least 12 companies in Forbes’ World’s 1000 largest. In 2009, PT Telkom Indonesia ranked #657, Bank Central Asia at #930, Bank Rakyat Indonesia at #988, Bank Mandiri at #1004.
Things will change, as Indonesian companies book more and more profit and they’ve expanded their investment and operation by double, which will lead them to a bigger market capitalization.
I am listing out Indonesia’s 1 largest companies per sector, for your kind pleasure:
Automotive & Transport: Astra
Banking: Bank Mandiri
Food: PT. Indofood Sukses Makmur
Wood & Paper Products: Asia Pulp
Chemicals: Tri Polyta Indonesia Tbk
Construction: PT Semen Gresik
Cosmetics: Martha Tilaar Group
Energy: Pertamina
Metals & Mining: Aneka Tambang PT
Cleaning Services: Calmic Indonesia
Telecommunications Services: PT. Telkom Indonesia
Transportation Services: Garuda Indonesia
Tobacco: PT. Gudang Garam
You might have more accurate info. Please share ![]()

I think in banking sector, BCA will be still the first. PT Telkom is the largest for telecommunication and also information technology (considering they have Sigma Cipta Caraka as subsidiary).
How about:
Agriculture? PTPN?
Retail? Matahari?
Financial services?
Konstruksi?
Media & Entertaintment? MNC? or Jawapos Group?
I’m not quite sure that BCA holds the largest banking sector. Remember, it’s Indonesian Largest Companies. And BCA is considered as a bank which operates for Asia. Not Indonesia only.
Anyway, have a nice day!
RTB : Thanks for your comment. BCA ranks #2 in term of assets and market value, Mandiri still holds the tittle as largest bank.
Saryta : BCA has some branches overseas, but its main operation is still in Indonesia.
Why Mandiri cosidered as the largest company in its sector while in Forbes 1000 Bank Rakyat Indonesia at #988 and Bank Mandiri at #1004? Shouldn’t BRI become the largest ?
Widya, good point.
The forbes list is based on market value, while the list above is on revenue.
What happened to my earlier post linking to the 100 largest Indonesian private groups and companies?
