RIM to Develop Indonesian ITB Innovation Center in Bandung

Bandung. The Canadian based Research in Motion inked a deal on Tuesday with the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) for the establishment of an innovation center, citing it as a form of “gratitude” from the Blackberry producer to its loyal Indonesian customers.

The memorandum of understanding on the establishment and development of the RIM Innovation Center was signed by ITB rector Akhmaloka and RIM Indonesia president director Andy Cobham at the ITB campus in Bandung on Tuesday — the center is expected to organize IT trainings and education programs.

“Blackberry has become so popular in Indonesia, which is one of our major markets not only in Asia, but also globally,” Hastings Singh, the vice president for sales and distribution at RIM East Asia, said during the event.

“For the past 18 months we’d thought about how to reciprocate Indonesia’s very warm welcome to Blackberry, and we finally decided on a program aimed at developing youth education,” he added.

The RIM Innovation Center will be located in the ITB campus, and is expected to provide opportunities for ITB students to learn about entrepreneurship in the field of information technology.
