Le Mans Race..now in Indonesia

On the heels of the championship’s relaunch last month, the Automobile Club de l’Ouest confirmed Tuesday that a round of the Asian Le Mans Series will be held in Indonesia next year.

An agreement has been signed between the ACO, the promoter and organizer of the Asian LMS (S2M and TS Motorsport) and Indonesian authorities for a race at the Sentul International Circuit scheduled for Dec. 7-8 2013.

Located in Babakan Madang, Bogor, 30 miles south of the capital city of Jakarta, the 11-turn, 2.46-mile circuit, built in 1993, has previously hosted A1 GP, GP2 Asia as well as Speed Car.

A delegation from Indonesia attended last month’s 24 Hours of Le Mans, where a draft agreement was originally signed. It was led by the Indonesian ambassador in France, Razlan Ishar Jenie, and included the President of the Sentul Circuit, Tinton Soeprapto, and Max Sopacua, representing the Indonesian parliament.

The six-round Asian LMS calendar, which will be announced in September, is expected to feature three events in China at the Zhuhai, Shanghai, Ordos circuits, along with a round in Mt. Fuji in Japan.

All races will be standalone of the FIA World Endurance Championship and will be three hours in length and eligible to LMP2, LMPC, GTE and GTC entries.
