Young Indonesians make journey to south Australia

Jakarta (ANTARA News) – Eighteen young Indonesians will make a journey of a lifetime when they visit Australia as part of the Australia-Indonesia Youth Exchange Program (AIYEP), accoprding to the Australian embassy here.

These young people will have the opportunity to experience living and working in South Australia, the embassy in its official website on Wednesday.

Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Greg Moriarty said he was delighted by the participants` enthusiasm to embrace the experience and further understand Australian culture while also promoting their own culture to the Australian community.

“This highly rewarding youth exchange program provides a way of filling the gaps in understanding between our two countries and establishes important people-to-people links and lifelong friendships,” said the Ambassador.

During their time in Australia, the participants will be involved in a two-month homestay, work placement and cultural program in Adelaide and on Kangaroo Island, both located in the state of South Australia.

In December, Indonesian participants will then meet their Australian counterparts in Adelaide and return to Indonesia together to undertake a similar program in Rokan Hulu, Riau until February 2012. During this time they will live with local families and assist with community development projects.

AIYEP is managed by the Australia-Indonesia Institute and the Indonesian Ministry for Youth and Sport. (*)
