Indonesia One: Indonesia’s Presidential Aircraft

Indonesian government is ready to acquire Boeing Business Jet 2 (BBJ2) for presidential use. So far, the government chartered Garuda Indonesia and Pelita Air Service (PAS) to transport the president and his delegation everywhere on earth, which is proven to be inefficient in term of cost and operation.

The Boeing business jet 2, is an evolution of the BBJ family, providing a 25% increase in cabin volume and 100% increase in cargo volume compared to the BBJ 1. The aircraft’s long-range capability allows direct non-stop flight from New York to London, Moscow or Dubai, or from London to Rio de Janeiro, Johannesburg, Singapore or Tokyo.

The aircraft are manufactured at the Boeing Commercial Airplane Group manufacturing facilities at Renton in Washington. The customer selects an interior design company and completion centre for the installation of the interior fitting. Boeing Business Jets transfer the aircraft in a ‘green condition’, i.e. unpainted and without the interior fittings, to the completion centre where the interiors are installed and painting is completed.

This aint the first indonesian president’s air. Once, Indonesia had Ilyushin Il-18 (code name Dolok Martimbang) which was a gift from Uni Sovyet. Then he also used Boeing 707, to match with US Airforce One. When the helm of stated moved to Soeharto, Indonesia acquired Fokker F-28, and then BAe -146 as his official airplane, while for long haul travel, Soeharto hopped on DC-8.

I agree with you. Besides, why Boeing? Or Airbus for that matter. Embargo…embargo…why not try Embraer or Sukhoi business jet?

cuz our air force pilots are a lot more accustomed in using boeing for big plane (that is what they say).. and buying plane also lower the gov’s expense, considering how much the gov must paid everytime they charter garuda

Bagas, are you kidding or what?
President must have a comfortable 5 star aircarft to get new contracts, new business and show the technology of comfort to all the countries of the world.

It will not affect the budgte of the nation, no worry compare to rental…much cheaper.

Totally agree with you. All that money can be used to clean Ciliwung, Citarum or even to help the Jakarta Monorail project :(

This government has lost its priorities in spending!

    It’s to prestigious for us…
I know it’s a good news or condition, but why our government spend country’s money for not to make any responsible for the citizens?

At Soekarno era we use also the Lockheed Jetstar.
buying this type of airplane 4 presidential purposes is not a wise decision at this moment.
Why dont’t we buy the CN235 just 4 penerbangan antar Pulau. since this technology is ours, we can put as much as electronic secret devices as we will.

I think the main problem is that CN-235 has propeller instead of jet engines. It takes literally hours to go from Jakarta to another island using this plane.

South Koreans bought this plane because they want to use it for maritime patrol. Which does involve hours of flying over deep blue sea ;) and at minimum cost (no jet fuel needed)

long haul flights need an aircraft which is capable enough to cruise the distance. CN235 is not designated to cruise very long distances. remember, a president doesnt travel only CGK-DPS! he might travel around the world. only Boeing & Airbus class that have the technology. choosing BJJ is the best decision. in politics, it’s also good to strengthen our bargaining position. of course, an aircraft for president can’t be compared to any commercial aircraft. don’t be unknowledgable. see the positive side!
