ITB to host Asian Pharmacy Conference

Bandung, West Java (ANTARA News) – The Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) will host the fifth biennial conference of the Asian Association of Schools of Pharmacy (AASP) on June 17-19, 2011, a committee member said here Wednesday.

Health Minister Endang Rahayu Sedianingsih will open the conference, accompanied by the Rector of ITB, Prof.Akhmaloka as well as AASP President Prof.Ji-Wang Chern, the Chairman of the Executive Committee event, Dr.Tutus Gusnidar said

He said, the conference is the first time carried out in Indonesia, which is the ITB School of Pharmacy was appointed to be the host that represents the entire pharmaceutical education institutions in Indonesia that currently there are approximately 66 institutions.

“This important and rare opportunity will be used to establish the scientific and academic information among the pharmaceutical colleges, that will be realized in the first Pharmacy Deans Forum in Asia, in order to discuss the future of pharmaceutical education,” Dr.Tutus Gusnidar explained.

According to him, in accordance with the conference theme of “The Pharmacist Health Care as a Key Player: The interplay of Education, Science and Practice”, the current world of pharmacy education in Indonesia is required to become increasingly relevant to solve issues in the manufacture and use of drugs that are safe, nutritious, quality and benefit to the society.

Dr.Tutus added, in the running well insurance system, the pharmacists and the pharmaceutical scientists act as a vanguard of the society`s defense against the threat of the misuse and the abuse of drugs and hazardous materials.

It is expected that with the election of Indonesia as the host of this conference, it can improve and delivery the excellence of pharmaceutical educational systems and research.
