Indonesian Amateur Radio Organisation (ORARI) will hold the World Emergency Communications Training to the Asia-Australia region. This is first time in history the event to be held in Indonesia.
Communication exercises, known as the Global Simulated Emergency Test (GlobalSET) 2010 will be held on Saturday, May 15, 2010, for four hours from 11:00 to 15:00 pm. As quoted from the official release by ORARI, this exercise is coordinated globally by the International Amateur Radio Union (IARU).
Onno W. Purbo, Indonesia ORARI and internet activist, said the exercises are aim to enable the world’s Amateur Radio users to be accustomed to using the emergency channel. In addition, this exercise is expected to build an international emergency communications procedures, to be used to relay the news in a variety of modes and enhance public interest in emergency communications.
For emergency communications exercise will be used in emergency frequency agreed in the IARU Region 3 are 3.600MHz, 7.110MHz, 14.300MHz, 18.160MHz, and 21.360MHz. Operation mode to be used in practice is to use the voice (phone / voice), morse code and also using the computer. These connections will all be done using less than 100 Watts energy to communicate globally with stations in foreign countries.
The location for GlobalSET exercise will be conducted at the station ORARI YB0Z Center. The station is located at Station Street Mimosa I/A-7 YB0KVN Buncit Indah, Jakarta 12 510. “The ORARI Central Station YB0Z team operator will manned by fellow radio amateurs like Yoyo YB0ECT, Triadi YB0KVN, Vishnu YB0AZ, Budi YB0HD, Bambang YB0JS,” said Onno.
