I currently live in Surabaya, where you can still find pedicab drivers, street vegetables sellers in some places. Assuming that they’re lagging behind others in term of virtual world is completely wrong. I met some of them using their mobile phone and update their facebook status, or exchanging mp3 songs through bluetooth. Internet has clearly penetrated to the deep bottom of Indonesian society.

I received two messages from my Malaysian contributor, that Indonesia is currently the 6th largest users of Twitter (after US, Brazil, UK, Canada, Germany), 4th largest users of Facebook (after US, UK, and Turkey), and 3rd (if not 2nd) largest users of Blackberry (US, Canada-Indonesia).

Research In Motion (RIM), Blackberry producers said several months ago, that Indonesia is set to replace Canada as world’s 2nd largest Blackberry users.
