Looking back in 1950s, long before The Beatles and the Rolling Stones got famous, there was a band named The Tielman Brothers, the first Dutch-Indonesian band that successfully went international. Their music was called Indorock, a fusion of Indonesian and Western music, and had roots in Keroncong. There were 44 singles launched from 1959 to 1991.
Nowadays some of Indonesian bands under major label already go international, let say:

Ratu (their song ”Teman Tapi Mesra” has been translated and re-sung by a Swedish girl band Ladylike “Dreaming of the Time”)
And many more…
Now, have you heard about The SIGIT, Everybody Loves Irene, White Shoes & The Couple Company, or Mocca? I bet you’ve heard of Superman Is Dead. Stay tune for GNFI’s next entry!
