When was the last time you watched Indonesia’s war movie? Long time ago, rite? It was the time when movies about struggle were used by New-Order government to increase and keep up the nationalism of the people. Janur Kuning, Cut Nya’Dien, Diponegoro, Lebak Membara, and many more were aired almost every year. But, hey…I like all war movies, I mean, quality war movie. This post was made possible by GNFI’s loyal reader and active contributor, Mr. Yudha. (Thanks again, man). Here we go!

Indonesia will release the newest big-budgeted  movie on its Independence Day (August 17, 2009). The film ittled Merah Putih was the first film from Kemerdekaan (Independence) Trilogy. The film took setting from physical revolution post 1945. The story told about the struggle for five cadets who joined the military exercise in a city in Central Java. They, Amir (was played by Lukman Sardi), Tomas (Dodi Alamsyah), Dayan (Teuku Rifnu), Senja (Rahayu Saraswati), and Marius (Darius Sinathrya), each one had the background, the ethnic group, and the different religion. It is estimated that the movie’s budget is about $7,0000,000.

Merah Putih was taped on celluloid 35 millimeter format (Hollywood standard movie celluloid), and supported by respected professional crew both national and international. Here is the list of the guaranteed people who makes this movie become the most anticipated movie in 2009 (besides Merantau):
