Did you know that Russia has successfully developed its very own passenger jet (middle range)? I bet you did. It’s been world widely informed that engineers from Italy, France, and Russia have designed, developed, and assembled the first Russian passenger jet. The name is The  Sukhoi Superjet 100.

The Sukhoi Superjet 100 is a modern, fly-by-wire regional jet in the 75- to 95-seat category. The Superjet 100 will be produced by Russian aerospace firm Sukhoi’s civil division. The jet is being developed in collaboration with Finmeccanica (Italy) subsidiary Alenia Aeronatic (Wikipedia).

So, what does the Superjet has to do with Good News from Indonesia?

Kartika Airlines, one of Indonesia’s newest airlines, has signed a Heads of Agreement for the airline to buy 15 Sukhoi Superjet 100s and another 15 on option. The order is valued at $448 million at list prices. Kartika becomes the first SSJ100 customer in South-East Asia. Kartika Airlines will employ the aircraft in both its domestic and international networks from its base at Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta International Airport and a hub in the Medan Polonia International Airport. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2011.

I will be the first passenger of Sukhoi Superjet 100, insyaAllah.
