Indonesia meraih lagi penghargaan internasional dalam bidang sains dan teknologi dari Perancis. Kadarusman dan Hananto Prakoso yang masing-masing tengah menyelesaikan studi di Universitas Paul Sabatier Toulouse dan Universitas Paris Est-Creteil.
Mereka menerima menerima Mahar Schutzenberger Award 2011 dari AFIDES Foundation. Penghargaan ini diberikan sejak 20 tahun lalu kepada mahasiswa doktoral di Perancis dan tercatat sudah 48 mahasiswa yang menerima penghargaan ini. Penghargaan ini diberikan kepada mereka yang sudah menempuh doktoral di Perancis yang penelitiannya dinilai memiliki kontribusi besar bagi sains dan teknologi.
Pemberian penghargaan berlangsung Kamis (20/10/2011) di Kantor Kedutaan Besar Republik Indonesia di Paris yang dihadiri Helen Schutzenberger sebagai Presiden AFIDES, Duta Besar RI untuk Perancis Reslan Ishar Jenise, dan profesor Perancis yang tergabung dalam Komite Sains. Menurut Helen, disertasi kedua mahasiswa tersebut memiliki kualitas dan inovasi tinggi serta menawarkan solusi bagi persoalan keanekaragam hayati, transportasi, dan ekonomi Indonesia.
Disertasi doktoral Kadarusman berjudul “Ikan Pelangi Kepala Burung Papua : Relasi Filogenetik, Sistematik dan Konservasi.” Ia mengkaji keanekaragaman jenis ikan Pelangi di Kepala Burung Papua, kajian taksonomisnya, serta sejarah evolusinya. Ia mengungkapkan bahwa banyak jenis ikan pelangi kini terancam punah sehingga upaya konservasi maupun budidaya mutlak dilakukan.
Sementara, studi Hananto berjudul “Mobilitas dan Aksesibilitas Pasar Tenaga Kerja di Kota-kota Indonesia“. Ia mengungkapkan bahwa semakin lancar mobilitas warga, maka pasar tenaga kerja akan semakin meningkat. Untuk itu, pemerintah diminta memperbaiki infrastruktur, moda transportasi dan fasilitas publik untuk meningkatkan akses masyarakat ke pasar tenaga kerja.

Two Indonesians to attend Global Youth Summit in London
Two Indonesians have been selected from almost 2,000 young people from all over the world to attend the Global Youth Summit in London from Nov. 13 to Nov. 19.
The two teenagers are Ryan Fajar Febrianto, 19 and Anindita Kusuma Listya, 19. They will join 58 other participants in the summit to share best practices in the areas of human rights, anti corruption, youth work, women’s and girls’ rights, climate change, poverty reduction, education, HIV/AIDS and social entrepreneurship said a release from the British Council received by the Jakarta Post on Monday.
The Global Youth Summit is part of the British Council’s Global Changemakers initiative. Global Changemakers is a global network of a select group of young people, who have a significant track record as social entrepreneurs, social activists and volunteers (ages 16-25).
They meet to share ideas and best practices, and work individually and together on projects that directly impact the lives of those in their local communities.

Indonesian U-15 soccer team becomes asian student champion
Jakarta, Sept 12 (ANTARA) – The Indonesian soccer team under the age of 15 years who became champion at the Asian Students Cup Football Tournament after beating Thailand 2-1, is back in Indonesia on Monday (Sept.12).
Upon arrival at the Soekarno-Hatta international airport in Tangerang the team was greeted only by the parents of the students and representatives of the Youth and Sports Ministry.
None of the All-Indonesia Soccer Association (PSSI) ranking officials were on hand at the airport.
Meanwhile, Roni Iswandi, manager of the U-15 team said “We are very grateful and proud of the team`s victory”.(*)
Two ITB Departments Receive International Accreditation
Two departments at the Bandung Technology Institute (ITB) have received an international accreditation from the United States’ Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), which will be valid for six years.
The accredited departments were ITB’s School of Maritime Engineering and School of Electrical Engineering, tempointeraktif.com reported on Monday.
ABET acknowledged that the quality of lecturers, curricula and graduates of both departments had met international standards.
The head of ITB’s School of Maritime Engineering department, Muslim Muin, said it had been preparing to comply with ABET’s standards of accreditation since 2007, before making its proposal in 2010.
The assessment was carried out over three days in July 2010. The result were announced in August 2011.
ABET assessed nine main components, including the quality and background of lecturers, the curricula, the campus’ facilities and laboratories as well as the graduates’ ability to be absorbed by companies.
ABET Inc. is a recognized accreditor for college and university programs in applied science, computing, engineering and technology. Among the most respected accreditation organizations in the US, ABET has provided leadership and quality assurance in higher education for more than 75 years.
ABET accredits more than 3,100 programs at more than 600 colleges and universities worldwide.

Indonesia Raih Medali di International Mathematic Contest 2011
Singapura- Pada 29 Juli s.d 01 Agustus 2011 lalu, International Mathematic Contest (IMC) yang diselenggarakan oleh IMC Union Beijing China kali ini dilaksanakan di Singapura dan bertempat di Mei Chin Road, Queenstown. IMC 2011 ini diikuti oleh sepuluh negara, yaitu: Singapura, India, Filipina, Indonesia, PR China, China Taipei, China Hongkong, Malaysia, Korea Selatan dan Thailand dengan jumlah total peserta lebih dari 1200 peserta.
Indonesia mengirim wakilnya yang merupakan siswa Khusus Klinik Pendidikan MIPA (KPM) yang telah mengikuti seleksi dan para finalis dari Kompetisi Matematika Nalaria Realistik (KMNR). Terpilihlah 112 orang yang berasal dari kelas 3 SD hingga kelas 1 SMA dan meraih 79 medali, yaitu Emas 11, Perak 22 dan Perunggu 46.
Dua orang peserta dari SD Insan Kamil Bogor yang berhasil diwawancari yaitu: Vania Irbah Anargya (Kelas 4/Silver) dan Rifqi Akmal Tsaqif (Kelas 6/Perunggu). “Aku cuma berdoa habis lomba, karena aku juga agak gugup. Tapi aku senang banget bisa dapet Silver!” ungkap Vania. “Aku deg-degan banget pas nunggu hasil pengumuman dan hasilnya aku mendapat Bronze. Alhamdulillah” cerita Rifqi.

Indonesia Delegation for Harvard Project for Asia and International Relations (HPAIR) Asia Conference 2011 in Seoul, South Korea
Since 1991, the annual HPAIR conferences have brought together the most promising students from around the world to engage in a dynamic forum with leaders in government, business, academic, and the arts. The Asia Conference has emerged as Harvard University’s largest student event in Asia. The HPAIR Asia Conference is 5-day academic program held on 19-23 August with seven panel workshops moderated by Harvard graduate students and conducted concurrently throughout the conference. The theme for 2011 Asia Conference is: “At the Crossroads: Decision in a Dynamic Asia” integrates the contents of the academic and business world to create a hybrid structure. Delegates will benefit from gaining a broader exposures to issues spanning multiple arena, including political, social, economic, cultural and bussines.
Indonesia had 44 delegates which come from different universities such as ITB, UI, Unpad, UGM, UPH, etc and participats in 7 different panels. Which are Entrepreneurial Spirit: Shaping Asia’s Social and Economic Future ; Economic Dynamics: International Finance and Governance, Green Dominance: Asia’s Emerging Leadership in International Environmental Regulation and the Renewable Energy Market ; Asian Security in a Changing Global Environment ; International Development ; Winds of Change: Business Leadership in an Evolving Economy ; Global Asia in the Pursuit of Media Literacy. The conference events are pre-conference tours, opening ceremony, business plenary, panel sessions, seminars, career fair, field trip, university day, international night, Gala dinner and closing ceremony. At the International Night we had Ni Made Keshia from Unpad representing Indonesia’s Culture through Legong Keraton Dance.
Overall the conference said Asia has so many potential in so many different aspects that waiting to be improve and develop. As a future leader, we need to go out, change the world and continuing the great development that Asia’s have right now. After the conference, Indonesia delegates has an idea to bidding the conference next year in Indonesia.

Sarjana Kedokteran Termuda dari Makassar
Makassar- Mahasiswi FK-UNHAS (Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Hasanuddin) Farah Ekawati Mulyadi berhasil meraih gelar sarjana kedokteran (S.ked) dalam usia yang masih muda, yaitu 19 tahun.
Ia menjadi almuni termuda yang meraih sarjana kedokterannya.
Farah juga berhasil lulus dengan IPK yang cukup tinggi yakni 3,72 dengan lama studi tiga tahun. Setelah menyelesaikan gelar sarjana kedokterannya, ia kemudian akan melanjutkan co-ast selama dua tahun.
Ia menjadi wisudawan termuda pada acara wisuda sarjana Unhas yang digelar di Baruga AP Pettarani, Unhas, Tamalarea, Makassar, Kamis (8/9/2011).
Farah mengikuti program akselerasi di SMP 6 Makassar, jadi ia menghabiskan waktu SMP hanya dalam waktu dua tahun kemudian melanjtkannya di SMA 17 Makassar.
Ia kemudian lulus di Fakultas Kedokteran Unhas dan akhirnya menyelesaikan kuliah selama tiga tahun untuk mendapatkan gelar S.ked. Menurutnya, menjadi mahasiswa kedokteran bukan berarti belajar terus-menerus, ia tetap ada waktu untuk refreshing dan belajar seperti mahasiswa yang lainnya.

Menristek: Indonesia Bisa Lebih Maju
Menteri Riset dan Teknologi, Suharna Supranata, yakin generasi muda Indonesia bisa membaca negara ini menjadi lebih maju. Hal ini ia utarakan senada dengan tingginya minat anak-anak untuk mendalami ilmu robotika dan bukan itu saja, sudah mulai masuknya ilmu robotika ke kurikulum sekolah. Hal ini menjamin jika nanti generasi muda Indonesia sudah siap teknologi dan siap bersaing, selain itu, ilmu robotika juga bisa memancing kreativitas anak untuk selalu berpikir inovatif untuk kemajuan dan kemandirian bangsa di masa mendatang.
Majunya suatu bangsa bukan saja dilihat dari banyaknya sumber daya alam, luas tanahnya dan jumlah penduduknya yang besar, melainkan oleh inovasi dalam menggunakan ilmu pengetahuan dan teknologi untuk memperoleh hasil yang semakin produktif,” ungkapnya disela-sela sambutannya dalam Kompetisi Robotik Ristek Indonesia 2011, di SMESCO, Jakarta, Sabtu (20/8/2011), yang dibacakan perwakilannya.
Sebanyak 305 siswa dari tingkat SD, SMP, dan SMA bertanding dalam Indonesia Robotic Olympiad 2011, kompetisi robotik kedelapan tingkat nasional, di Smesco Building, Jakarta, Sabtu (20/8/2011). Selain itu Menristek berpesan jika persaingan di masa mendatang yang akan semakin ketat. Karenanya, untuk memenangkan persaingan tersebut diperlukan kerja keras dan semangat yang kuat dalam menimba ilmu pengetahuan dan teknologi.
Terbukti Jepang yang sangat minim dengan sumber daya alam bisa menjadi negara maju, bagaimana jika indonesia yang sudah disokong dengan segala kekayaan alamnya jika ditambah dengan majunya teknologi negara ini dimasa mendatang? Indonesia pasti bisa!

RI students grab medals in int’l astronomy Olympiad
Three Indonesian high school students won two silver and one bronze medal in the 5th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA) in Katowice and Krakow, Poland, last week.
Indonesia’s National Education Ministry announced in a press statement on Tuesday that Ko Mathias Adrian from SMAN 5 Bekasi state high school in West Java and Raymond Djajalaksana from SMK Penabur vocational school in Jakarta each won a silver medal, while M. Wildan Ghafari from SMA Semesta in Semarang grabbed a bronze.
A total of 134 participants from 26 countries took part in the contest, to which Indonesia sent five students, including Miftahul Hilmi from SMAN 1 Gresik state high school in East Java and James Lim from SMK Petra Surabaya vocational school.
The students were joined at the competition in Poland by Hakim L. Malasan and Mohammad Ikbal from Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB).
Outside the contest, ITB lecturer Chatief Kunjaya was also elected as the president of the IOAA for the 2012 – 2016 period, while Poland’s Grzegorz Stachowski was appointed secretary-general, tribunnews.com reported
